The Shard Viewing Gallery: A View from the Top
Well, first thing’s first, The Shard! It is that tall pointy building that just kind of dominates the London skyline, right? Seriously, you just cannot miss it. So, if you have booked a visit to the Viewing Gallery, the first thing you are in fact doing is zipping up in a high-speed elevator. And it’s quick, I mean, actually quick. Next, you’re ejected right at the top, like, very quickly. So, the views? Yeah, they’re mind-blowing. That said, you can, apparently, see pretty much the whole of London, it is almost sprawling right out beneath you. Honestly, you do get a proper sense of the sheer size of the city.
You know, when I went, the weather could be better, very typical for London! And still, it really was, actually, worth it. Right, I could see all the iconic landmarks; is that Tower Bridge, the Tower of London, and just loads and loads of that urban sprawl. If you happen to be that way inclined, there are telescopes dotted around, yet, so too you get a closer peep at some of the stuff down below. In fact, it’s fairly easy to lose track of time up there, to be honest.
But that said, is that it could be pricey. Alright, I mean, that is London for you, naturally! And that cost is not necessarily something everyone can stomach. So, you can potentially book in advance to sort of snag a better price. Also, so it’s arguably worth checking the weather forecast, too it’s almost if you want to see a big bunch. Of course, visibility is that key when you are up that high.
Westminster Walking Tour: A Stroll Through History
Okay, right, moving on to Westminster, so! After, or perhaps before, hitting The Shard, anyway, you might want to have a wander around Westminster. As I was saying, it is actually that area of London that’s stuffed full of famous landmarks. So, naturally, the walking tour is a thing, especially one that is led by someone, really someone, that really knows their onions. And that way you can experience so much history. Very often they’ll tell you a story.
Very well, I’ve actually done a guided tour around there a bit back, very. The guide was, as a matter of fact, great, actually pointing out stuff that I’d probably have just, you know, walked straight past. In some respects, is that a big plus. Very typically, the tours usually take in Westminster Abbey. So, you will be looking at the Houses of Parliament, alright, and Big Ben, naturally. And frankly, you learn a ton about the people, right, and the events that have sort of shaped the UK. It could be fairly insightful. Tours, actually, sometimes seem, rather short, for some of these.
However, that said, bear in mind, anyway, that you’re going to be on your feet for a good bit. Like your shoes should be comfy and weather-appropriate! Seemingly, there’s usually quite a lot of walking between each spot, alright, especially if you’re very attempting to cram loads in. On the other hand, the area is fairly level, though, as I was saying, so it really is not too strenuous, arguably. And still, remember your umbrella and water, you.
Combining the Shard and Westminster: Is it Worth It?
Okay, very well, so you’re asking yourself, anyway: is lumping these two things together a decent idea? In fact, I’d probably say yes, that! Especially if you’re a bit pushed for time, anyway. It’s typically quite nice to sort of mix that modern view from The Shard, is that, with the proper old-school history down in Westminster. By the way, you end up with a more rounded kind of picture of London. Basically, old and new, if you will.
Right, a thing that is worth bearing in mind, really: that getting between the two places could require a little bit of travel, to be honest. Right, they’re really not right next door to each other. Seemingly, it is easy enough to hop on the tube or grab a bus, just be sure to factor in that journey time. Very naturally, traffic can also be pretty fierce, actually, so too you need to allow plenty of wiggle room.
Alternatively, it is arguably worth booking a combined tour. I mean, actually, in that way they do all of the transfer arrangements, and it all really is nice and simple. Clearly, this does take out one level of worry, like you might find beneficial. If you’re traveling solo.
